There has been some criticism by the Catholic church that "The Golden Compass" is anti-religious. This movie, which is directed by Chris Weitz, is based on the first book of a trilogy by Philip Pullman. It has been said that Pullman was an "avowed atheist and has said in interviews that his books are about killing God''.
